FAQ

This is our Frequently Asked Questions Page. They can hopefully clear up any simple misconceptions you may have or a word or phrase that might not make sense. If there is anything not answered here please either chat with us or go to the contact page, we'd love to hear from you!

Are you affiliated with PSU's IFC or Panhel?

No, at Penn State we are considered a service organization and not a Greek organization. This means we are not affiliated with the Inter Fraternity Council or the Panhellic Council. This allows us to complete our pledging and recruitment process on our own with less restriction!

2

Are there restrictions to who can join?

No! Anyone is allowed to pledge APO. There are no limitations based on GPA, year, major, etc. The requirements you see on our how to join are all you need to fulfill to become an APO member, and if any of those might be an issue we are willing to work with your situation. We want everyone to be able to join!

3

Is Hazing apart of pledging?

NO!! As much as the process is still called pledging this is only a tradition and representative of the learning you will be doing. Hazing is strictly prohibited and you are treated as an equal during your pledging process. If you have any concerns feel free to reach out.

4

What are Bigs/Littles?

During your pledging process you will get to meet some brothers during activities of "Big Little Week" then put in your preferences of who you mesh best with. You will then be paired with a "Big" who will be sort of a one on one mentor to help you through your time in APO, even beyond pledging. This also places you into one of our 3 families, offering another support system for you.

4

Are there Dues?

Yes, each semester there are $70 dollar dues for brothers. These go towards our nationals dues and putting on meaningful service and fun events for you! We are lucky this is much less than the typical sorority or fraternity, however we know this can still be out of reach for people. We do not want money to be a reason someone does not join, so our treasurer is willing to work on case by case basis.
